This July, following the DANA storm and the most intense heatwave in recent years, the July edition of Café Europa will focus on the climate crisis.
Friday, July 25 · 9:00 – 10:00 · Online via Zoom · Register now
The climate crisis does not impact everyone equally. In the Mediterranean region, extreme events such as heatwaves, droughts, or torrential rains affect territories and populations very differently. Social conditions, access to resources, and adaptive capacity determine which groups are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. But how are these vulnerabilities measured? Which territories and social profiles are most exposed? And what public policies are needed to address them with climate justice?
These questions will be discussed in the upcoming Café Europa, taking place on July 25 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in a virtual format. The session is titled: “The Heat Isn’t the Same for Everyone: Inequalities and Vulnerabilities in the Face of the Climate Crisis in the Mediterranean.”
Participants:
Maria del Carmen Llasat, PhD and Professor of Physics at the University of Barcelona, specialist in severe meteorological phenomena and the social impact of natural hazards, especially in the Mediterranean region. She leads the Grupo de Análisis de Situaciones Meteorológicas Adversas (GAMA-UB).
Ana Romero Càlix, Director of Climate Action Services at the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB). Environmental scientist with a Master’s in Integrated Water Cycle Management. She began her career in industrial risk management and later developed it within various public administrations. She is also a lecturer in the Master of Philosophy for Contemporary Challenges at UOC and founder of the Col·legi d’Ambientòlegs de Catalunya.
The conversation will be moderated by Júlia Manresa, journalist specializing in economics and the climate crisis. She currently works in strategic communication for a European organization based in Brussels and is the winner of the Pasqual Maragall Legacy Award 2023.
The session will be opened by Dolors Camats, Director of the Fundació Catalunya Europa.
