Tierno Galván's Papers: The Madrid-Barcelona Rivalry of the First Democratic City Councils.

Presentation of "Los papeles de Tierno Galván"

The rivalry and cooperation between Tierno Galván's Madrid and Serra and Maragall's Barcelona come to light. This book is an attempt to recover the figure of Enrique Tierno Galván, with all the complexities that surrounded him throughout his personal and political trajectory. It also offers an analysis of the relationships between Madrid and Barcelona, and their mayors: Tierno, Narcís Serra, and Pasqual Maragall, always oscillating between collaboration and rivalry.

This has been made possible through the first study of Enrique Tierno Galván's personal archive, donated by his son to the Arús Public Library in Barcelona. Beyond Tierno's figure, the book places special emphasis on the not always easy relationships Tierno maintained with the city of Barcelona and, specifically, with mayors Serra and Maragall.

The event will take place on November 4, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Sala Bohigas of the Ateneu Barcelonès and will feature the participation of Àlex Masllorens, author of the book, and a dialogue between the mayor of Barcelona Jaume Collboni and the former mayor of Madrid Manuela Carmena.

With the support of the Barcelona City Council.
