Europe in the Mirror: The Screening of 'Foreign Action' Calls for a United Voice from the 27

Last night, the Zumzeig Cinema Cooperative hosted the screening of the documentary “Foreign Action: At the Heart of European Diplomacy”, directed by Albert Solé, which portrays the final months of Josep Borrell as High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the European Commission.

The event, organized by the Catalunya Europa Foundation and CEI International Affairs, drew a packed audience eager to gain an insider’s view of the inner workings of the European Union’s foreign policy. The film conveys Borrell’s frustration at the difficulty of representing a Europe of 27 states that often struggle to reach agreement, and reflects the challenges of a divided European diplomacy in a context marked by the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East.

After the screening, a discussion took place with the director, Albert SoléJoaquim Llimona, Director of CEI International Affairs; and Airy Maragall, President of the Catalunya Europa Foundation. The debate emphasized the need to overcome the unanimity rule, which still limits the EU’s ability to speak with a single voice on the global stage.

The session left a clear impression: Europe will only be able to play a meaningful role globally if it advances toward a more cohesive and courageous foreign policy, one capable of balancing diplomatic realism with the values that give it purpose.
